Affiliate Marketing is a web marketing advertising channel that puts merchants responsible of a web marketing sales department. Merchants look to earn revenue from sale of their products or services, pay affiliates (publishers) who want to earn revenue from placement of product banners or text links on their site. Merchants only pay affiliate partners for results, like a lead or a sale “pay-for-performance”.

Sorts of Affiliates Sites

Shopping – site are virtual malls. the buyer shops for various brands and products on site. These sites aren’t driven by particular coupon or deal offer.
Coupon/Deal – hottest affiliate model. These sites are shopping sites that need merchant to supply consumer with either a coupon, percent off savings, or free shipping offer.
Comparison Shopping – sites sell items employing a comparison model. These sites usually require a knowledge feed of merchants’ products.
Loyalty/Rewards – sites where a percent of the merchant’s commission is employed to pay reward to consumer. Allows consumer to pick their reward option. Rewards can include cash, airline miles, mastercard points, or donation to charity or organization
Content – sites are usually not shopping sites. Consumers attend sites because the content is of particular interest. Sites to particular product contained in site.
Blogs/Forums – sites post or feature that specialise in a specific product or merchant and include a product affiliate link to the merchandise.

Affiliate Commission Model 

Pay-per-Performance (Revenue Share) – Merchant pays affiliate commission supported a percentage of the entire order value.
Pay-per-Lead / Cost-per-Acquisition – Merchant pays affiliate commission for each lead or order referred from their site.
Cost per Impression – Merchant pays affiliate commission for each 1,000 impressions of their banner on affiliates’ site.
Cost per Click – Merchant pays affiliate commission whenever a visitor clicks on their banner on the affiliates’ site.

How does it work?

Affiliate obtains Merchant creative from Affiliate Network and loads to their site.
Consumer visits Affiliate site and clicks Merchant banner.
Cookie is about on Consumer’s browser which identifies Merchant, Affiliate and link.
Consumer is directed to Merchant site.
Affiliate ID is captured by Merchant in referring URL.
Consumer makes purchase from Merchant.
Cookie information sent to Affiliate Network.
Merchant transmits sales file to Affiliate Network which incorporates Affiliate ID.
Affiliate Network tracks sales transactions with Affiliate ID and pays Affiliate.



Adsense is a program run by google which allows publisher in the google network of content sites to put google ads, that are targeted to site content and audience. Ads can be in form of automatic text, image, video, or interactive media advertisements. It creates revenue either through pay per click or pay per impression basis.

How does it work?

Advertisers choose the keyword they want to advertise on.
The adsense spider will then match my ads up with: The keywords people type on google. Website that display adsense ads.
Then adsense will crawl your website’s content to find out if it matches up with keywords.
